Default Random PT 7.3.1 crashes

I have recently upgraded to a Macbook Pro from a Powerbook G4 (which served me very well). My Pro Tools LE system has been upgraded alongside this, from 6.9 to 7.3.1. This latest version is great however I have been experiencing some random crashes every now an then, and is more frequent that I'd like, it is also a cause for concern.

During working on a project the following message appears:

'Assertion in "/Volumes/Development/vb_cliff/AlturaPorts/NewFileLibs/CoreFoundation/MacBuild/../../Sys/MacOs/Sys_FileUtilisMacOs.cpp', line 453 while deleting "Fade aGhXOKCh! wfaaaGJ.wav" '

There is no regular pattern in my workflow to why this message is triggered off. Once the message appears, Pro Tools crashes and sometimes this is followed by my laptop freezing then a grey screen appears forcing me to restart the computer.

I am working on a MAcBook Pro 15" 2.33GHz 2GB RAM, with Pro Tools 7.3.1 LE (002R) running .ptf from an external Avastor HDX 160GB FW800 drive.

If anyone has any idea as to why this might be happening, please advise. I have already trashed volume database files and done a repair permissions to no benefit.
Thanks.

Please start with the steps in the OS X Setup and General Troubleshooting sticky at the top of this forum, specifically those areas on trashing preference and database files.
