Default Sales Tax on Upgrade

WTH Avid? I went to upgrade online and it wanted to tack on another 10 bucks. Screw that. I went to Sweetwater and bought it there and in a minute I had the code and was done. With the cut that they pay the vendor you think they would make more money by ditching the tax. Stupid IMO. Anyone else if they charge you tax for your upgrade just go buy it from BH or Sweetwater. That is just pissing money away.

It's not Avid. It's the state laws. Avid probably has a business presence in Washington State and has to charge sales tax.

Soon, bad weather will be Avid's fault.

You're actually supposed to pay the tax with your state income tax if you're not charged at the point of sale. Not saying that anyone does, but that's the law...

REPUBLIC OF CALIFORNIA:

There is no sales tax on software downloads, as its not a physical product.

When sales tax is appropriate, post-production pros only pay 3.5%, not the nearly10% tax.

Sorry to hear you are having issues. This thread however is focused on sales tax.

I suggest starting your own new thread or finding one on the topic that more closely represents you issue.
