Can't MIDI lock my workstation with pro tools

I have a fantom workstation with tons of MIDI sequenced data that I'd like to learn how to lock to my pro tools. I have tried a plethora of things, have read the both manuals back and forth and still haven't been able to lock. I don't even know where to begin so can someone please give me a step by step account of how to MIDI lock my workstation to pro tools? Thank you.

1.You need to make your workstation send MTC from (one of) its out port(S). See manual.

2.Set PT to recieve MTC in: Setups/Peripherals/Synchronization. Set the Generic MTC reader to the midi port that is reciving your workstations MTC.

3.Click the icon on the PT transport bar that looks like a clock (+ the record button). PT is now "waiting for sync"

4.Press play on your workstation.

5.Observe PT begin recording.
