Default 192 and DA-88 connection through TDIF

Hi
I connected 192 and Tascam DA-88 through TDIF. When sending -10dBFS 1k tone, the signal is totally overloaded at DA-88 meter (that is seen through the level meter at DA-88),

I could not find any solutions so far. Any help or suggestions will be wonderful

Hi,
It is not as trivial as it should be... Try this:
1. DA-88 and 192 must be connected via WORD CLOCK. Let PT be the master and set the DA-88 clock source to "WORD"
2. Don't connect the BNC directly to the DA-88. Use a BNC "T" and connect a 75 Ohm terminator to the other side of the "T". This may seem strange, but it works...
3. In "Hardware Setup" of the 192, set the Word clock to Tascam standard (90 deg out of phase).
That should do the trick.
Good luck

or, come out of a 192/96 digital into a digital converter (via TDIF, or ADAT, 3 x AES) and run it into the Tascam that way INCLUDING word-clock. or yeah, buy the BNC thing... that would be cheaper...

Hi, just wondering, where do i see that option to set Word Clock to Tascam standard?

you are referring to PT's "Hardware Setup" dialog ya? I can only see the option to set SPDIF to Tascam, but not Word Clock to Tascam, but there is Ext. Clock Output's option to set to "Word Clock (TDIF)" or "(48K)"

anyway, I guess what Wayne faced was a wrong Clock setting on the DA-88 itself.

I took me forever to figure this out last time so I made step by step instructions:

setting up DA-88 for TDIF input. (Make sure that you Monitors are all muted when setting this up and the DA-88 will be shooting out full-scale noise until you're finished!):

1. Connect TDIF (duh)

2. In Protools go to: Setup>Hardware setup, and change the "ext. Clock Output" to TDIF.

3. Connect BNC to the 192i/o word clock out.

4. In the session Window set the Clock Source to Sync I/O

5. In the session window set the SYNC setup to internal or what ever your ext source is.

6. This is the weird part. On the Word clock in on the DA-88 connect a BNC "T" plug. Plug the word out of the 192 I/O into one side of the "T" plug. On the open spigot of that T plug, connect a 75 Ohm terminator.

7. Set the DA-88 Clock to Word.

8. Do it.

Setting up the DA-88 to use the time code. This is great if you want your TC numbers in the DA-88 to match the TC numbers in your PT session.

1. Press Display and the down arrow.

2. At this screen use the up and down arrows to chose your time code format

3. if you are recording from Protools into the DA-88, select TC Rec on the far Right of the DA-88.

4. If your display is set to TC you will not see the Time code numbers roll until you actually hit record.

This may seem weird, but it means that the DA-88 is not internally terminated, hence the T plug. Several devices do not internally terminate, including most of the Lavry convertors.

No, it is.

The issue is TDIF v.1 VS TDIF v.1.1, the DA88s were v.1, while the 192 is TDIF v.1.1
