Default Audio to MIDI (for drum triggering)

Hello all,

I've used sound replacer in the past, but with the the HUGE onset of drum instruments on the market (BFD, DFH, Drumcore Reason drums) that all have HUGE velocity maps and often embedded samples, how can we generate MIDI tracks from our recorded drum tracks? While at Digiworld this weekend I heard the Reason demo guy mention in passing that this was possible with Beat Detective, but I don't recall this functionality. Am I missing something here? Is this new to 6.7?

Tim

Beat Detective has been part of TDM for quite a while now. I don't remember which specific version it cropped up in. Your info is correct that Beat Detective can create a tempo map from an audio track where there are clear sharp transients. You should probably take a quick look at the manual section covering Beat Detective prior to messing with it. I'm not in front of PT right now, but check around in your menus. If you are using LE, I understand that Beat Detective will be part of LE in 6.7, which is supposed to be available for download next week.

Or the old-fashioned method: use an Alesis D4 drummachine and route the audio through it's trigger inputs. Record the MIDI that is outputted.

Use Melodyne or recycle(export midi)
Melodyne also works well for charting melody lines.

Sorry, but you've misunderstood my original post. I'm fully aware of beat detective's TEMPO Mapping ability. What I'm looking for is AUDIO TO MIDI with amplitude to velocity (no pitch is needed).

So what's the cheapest version of Logic that will do this? This all seems like such a PITA.

DIGI, couldn't you guys come up with a viable solution? Even if it was rolling it into Soundreplacer (thus not cutting into those sales).

I'd love to have an audio to midi generator as well. . . Why get a piece of hardware like the DM4 for such as basic function?. . . I use my Pad 8 but it is takes more time to get it out and hook it up than actually doing the deed. . . a little utility/plugin would be handy. . .
