Default Joe Meek VC1Q & 001

I'm using a Meek VC1Q to record my bass and vocals in to the 001. Hoping someone has had experience with the VC1/Q to offer insight as to compression presets that work well at least to start from. Thanks

Go to RMI's website the distibutors of MEEK. I was able to download a chart for the VC3. As a jumping off point.

DFatz. Been using a VC-1 for a couple of years now. Killer.

1) never record with exciter
2) set release as quick as possible (4 vocal)

We also use it for bass and guitar direct. Try for lots of sustain.

Email PMI from their website and they'll give you some sample settings.

For voice I like:

Compressor 4:OO
Ratio 4/1
Attack .5 ms
Release .250 ms

Thanks shaggy. Two things: 1) what is 4:1 ratio? I have 1,2,3,4,5 on my slope switch. 2) how about bass settings? Thanks again

Oh I forgot. Because of the nature of optical compression they decided to change ratio and call it a slope. About 10:00

My unit doesn't have EQ. Also I hear the exciter (enhancer) is improved? We have used it when recording instruments in.

I use a XLR cable out the back and into channel 1 or 2. Then I take the t/r/s out the back (just t/r) hi z into my mixer. Route the 001 outputs in. Add fx. Stir. No latency!

Shaggy thanks, but my slope switch is different from yours. I only have five options for slope. The Meek manual tells me that position 1 is 1.5:1 and position 5 is 8:1. It doesn't say what 2,3,4 are though. Thanks
