overhead compression
hey everyone, just wondering what people go for, are there hard and fast rules to it? at the moment im recording an up tempo rock ep with one song thats punk and one ballad kind of thing. also a lot of the songs have crash cymbal going through the chorus. my plug-ins to hand are t-racks, slightly rude comp and blue tubes comp, as well as the digidesign/bomb factory freebies
if anyone can help that would be cool. |

Re: overhead compression
If this makes sense...
I compress going in with distressors, but not hard Enough to keep the transients smooth, but not harsh. You want to hear the cymbals hits, but then fade out. do not over do it. Make it fuzzy, then back it off. Put a 1 band EQ on it and cut all the rumble out to add sheen. Start at 900hz and raise it from there. Layer reverbs Hope this helps? Doc
