I'd go outboard converters with the 003 or an RME interface. RME cheap, stable and great sounding

I agree with Brandon. You can buy nice outboard mic pre's with great AD converters then send the signal over light pipe (ADAT) to the 003. Just make sure you sync the 003 and mic pre together with SPDIF, word clock, etc. so there are no artifacts in ADAT signal.

Hi,

When you say "quality" what are you referring to exactly?

If it's the audio conversion and playback quality, then yes, you need to look at different converter units.

What's your budget?

If you really want to step up your game in the conversion department then I'd highly recommend the Lynx Aurora 8. You'll need the LT-ADAT card installed on it, so you can hook it up via ADAT to the 003. Then connect a BNC cable to the word clock connection on the 003 and clock to the Lynx. You're looking at about $2225.00 for this option, so it really depends on your budget.
