Default upgrading HD rig from PT9 to HD10 w/o surrendering licence.

Been crazy busy last year and finally have downtime to upgrade my hexacore mac pro PCIe Acell HD system.
Currently running on Snow Lep, PT9

I plan on installing a new SSD drive, installing MT lion or Mavericks? (will 10.9 work with HD10? all is see is 11 info)

Plan on keeping the original boot drive for PT9 for the next year or so for the random recall or other unseen thing that may pop up.

Looks like I can only purchase a PT10/PT11 upgrade from avid for $999
However I thought PT11 was tied to new HDX HDN hardware?
do I get the option of running PT11HD standalone with this upgrade?

Since I'd like to boot into my old drive and run pro tools nine, I essentially want a PT10 auth without surrendering my PT9 auth. (is there any way to do this?)

11HD can/will run native but ir can not use the HD card/interface as I/O

You would have to buy a new license to officially keep your 9 license. Everything you have in 9 should work in 10 plus you get the extras that 10 brings to the table.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll have to buy a whole new license.
Looks like my option is buying a full standalone HD10/HD11 license auth card on ebay?

I know it sounds paranoid, but the level of projects I'm working with I can't have anything not recall perfectly. I don't really have time to sus it out either.

The upgrade from HD9 to HD 10/11 will also work if you have an HD8 or HD 7.3/7.4 asset.

In other words, when you go to upgrade from HD9 to HD 10/11, the iLok License Manager will ask you which 7.3/7.4, 8 or 9 license you'd like to surrender. I chose an old 7.3/7.4 license, so when it was all done, I ended up being able to keep my HD9 license (but I lost that 7.3/7.4 license).

Hope that helps...

Just so I'm not confused. If I upgrade from PT9 to PT10/PT11

I will be able to run PT11 (on core audio or some other usb sound card)
Even though I have and HD Accell TDM system?

I assumed that PT11 didn't run unless you authorized it with a corresponding HDX or HDN card

If you go from HD9 to HD10, you can run HD10 with your TDM system, or with anything else.

You can run HD11 with anything BUT your TDM system. The HD11 software will not even recognize the TDM hardware, and will force you to choose another interface, either your computer's built in output, or any standard firewire/usb interface you may want to use.

I don't have an old 7.4 HD or 8HD license . And looks like with avid's new policy of non-transfering software, I can't get one.
I tried buying a HD7.4 auth on ebay, and it looks like it's not gonna transfer. apparently 7 auth are blocked as well.

How do I keep my 9HD auth.

Relax. You will be fine with PT10 -- there is absolutely nothing in PT9 that wouldn't be working even better in PT10. So just go for it and don't worry about a thing.

HAHAHA. "just go for it" is an attitude I can't have.
The profesional level of audio work/production I'm at, there are no excuses, and thats partly why I've had some success in this game.

I need to make recalls sometimes a year later that HAVE to be 100% "just go for it" doesn't work for me.

I'm willing to pay extra to keep my auth. I might have to buy someone's old Ilok, with it then.

Can I buy one of those new unregistered PT10HD/11HD packages. I see online? for $1500-2000? Or is that another dead end that avid has created.
