Unless you have a "perfect" converter, then yes, working at 48k is better. Don't worry about SRC too much.

Agree, you should stay at 44.1 if you are working with sample libraries that were sampled at 44.1 (kontakt, VSL etc.) for avoiding too many SRC.

This post is in no way meant as a sample rate suggestion. We should all choose what makes us happy.

In the age of musicplayer forum I remember a post where Roger Nichols said that during a blind test none of them were able to pick which one was the 48khz and the 96khz while he was able to recognize the 24bit compared to 16

Definitely better to work at 48 vs 44.1. All your recording, mixing, EQ, etc is done on the higher sample rate audio. Then do ONE last conversion down to 44.1 at the end. Or better yet, let your mastering engineer convert down to 44.1 when HE is done manipulating the audio.

Seems like it mostly has to do with your hardware.
SlateDigital, for example, suggests 96k because it "sounds better on their converters."

At 48k... I'm curious how it would incorporate all my sample libraries? Kontact, maschine expansions, Vienna orchestra, etc... I'm not even sure what sample and bit depth they all are. I've always used 44.1/24bit.

Most VI sample libraries that I know of are 48k which means there is little to no advantage of running 96k

Does anyone know if the current HDX PCIe cards will work in PCIe 4.0 mobos? Or will new updated cards be required?

Usually new spec is backwards compatible with old one, assuming the connectors are not changed -- but both will need to be new spec if you wish any extra speed.

Avid has not shared any plans of releasing new cards, which still may not mean they are not around the corder. This kind of info is usually available on release date, not before.

PCIe is usually backwards and forwards compatible. So you can use a 2.0 card in a 3.0 or 4.0 slot. Also, a new 3.0 graphics card can work in a 2.0 slot (but at a slower speed), etc.

Most Mac users have an HDX card in a 5,1 MacPro with 2.0 slots, while most PC users have had them in 3.0 slots for a long time.

It’ll work fine in the new MacPro.
