Default session seems endless?

hello.
having issue with scroll bar in edit window. when entire "song" is in edit window, scroll bar shows that it is only fraction of entire session.
ex. song is around 110 bars. but using scroll bar at bottom, it will go to bar 2500, even though i haven't done anything there.
i have some audio and midi tracks. no automation yet.
any way to reduce what session sees as session length?
using hdx with mac pro

thanks...

Not that I am aware of. Maybe the real question is; why is it an issue? If its because Bounce to Disk goes on forever(a common newbie complaint) just highlight the part of the timeline you want(I zoom out so the entire song fits the screen and drag from just past the last bit of audio, to the front of the song. I also don't worry about getting it exact as I import the mixed 2 track into Wavelab(or any audio program, including PT) and trim the head and tail(if you do this in Pro Tools, you can simply export the trimmed audio file).

I've had this issue before. Try selecting from the end of the song to the end of the session. Then go to Event - Time Operations - Cut Time then hit Apply. This usually resolves it for me.

Don't have PT open in front of me right now, but...

Isn't this governed by the "maximum session length" (or whatever it is) setting?

It's probably an errant automation breakpoint.

Enable the All group, park the cursor where the song ends, press Option Shift Return, then go to the Edit menu and select Clear Special/All Automation.

I'm on PT8 but it's always been like this, since PT5, the session has no end point per se. I always had a lot of free space to the right in edit window. I think of it as workspace. You dont set an end point in a PT session.

True, but I think this is more an issue with zooming. If you have a song in the edit window where you can see the full length of the tracks, the bar at the bottom is usually very wide and becomes smaller as you zoom in. When I've had this issue, the bar stays small all the time which makes it very difficult to navigate. By deleting the measures after the end of the session, it usually fixes it. I guess Pro Tools thinks there's some kind of information out there, although even when I check automation there's nothing there. Doesn't happen a lot thankfully.

If you don't have a lot of tempo and meter changes, you could try creating a new session and importing the data without tempo and meter settings.
