http://www.wired.com/news/mac/0,2125,61031,00.html

This is a report on Wired's website about many people having firewire disasters when upgrading to MacOS 10.3
The Jist of it is to disconnect any firewire drives when doing the upgrade.

This problem affects Oxford 922 drives and will erase the contents of your drive. This happens not only during installation but also after a simple restart of your 10.3 system. Most manufacturers have posted firmware updates to their drives which will protect you until Apple fixes this problem. You can look at this article for more info

Default Re: Firewire Drives and Panther Problems

Although not as wide spread, there have been reports of FW400 corruption. There may be some Firmware issues with some drives that have not been uncovered.

Example

"This morning, I asked One Technologies, the manufacturer of my 120gb Firewire disk, if it was safe to use with Panther. The disk is FW400 and has the Oxford 911 chipset. The answer came back fast and simple, marked urgent: "No." They already have a case of data loss.

I'm not tryng to yell "Fire" here, but I thought people on this board should be aware, as many people here "backup"
their data to firewire drives.
