Default DIGI: Will there be an UPGRADE path for Digi001 Users?

Digi, I am sure I speak for everybody on this one. A quick reply to this may calm or ripple the waters.

Will there be an upgrade offer for us little 001 owners to purchase an 002?

Please answer. Don't tell me you spent probably over a year or two working on this product and it never crossed your mind that the old 001 owners would probably want to upgrade it the chance presented itself.

Silence is unfortunately not "golden" in this instance.

Thanks in advance!

And what about some kind of upgrade for those who won't go out and get a 002? To me, apart from 96KHZ capability which is standard on the rest of DAWs ot there, the old faithfull 001 remains a winner. I don't care about firewire, I don't care about 4 mic pres (I want to be able to choose and use pres that I like), I don't really care about a controller (if I'd really felt the need for one I'd go get a Motor mix or a Radikal SAC-2K, ). To me the truth is that 001 was an expandable system, that could grow with your needs and still had lots of quality features even in its basic form, and was reasonably priced, while 002 is an all-in-one, do-it-all box, I think this obviously leads to some compromises, and at a price that falls out of the reach of most budget minded engineers/musicians. I'm starting to think that 96KHz is not as important in my life as good sounding converters that only can go up to 48KHz.

OK, now flame me

Digidesign does not plan to offer Hardware Exchanges from other Pro Tools LE products to Digi 002.

The Pro Tools LE Hardware Exchange Program was created for customers who wish to exchange up from a Pro Tools LE product to a Pro Tools TDM system (such as Pro Tools|24 MIX and Pro Tools|HD). We also provide Hardware Exchanges that allow registered owners of earlier TDM systems to move up to our most current technology.

Well thats the rub then huh? looks like I'll be sticking with my 001. I have this bad feeling that OSX support will just happen to miss the 001 as well. Good way to loose customers Digi.

I think most of us will NOT upgrade because its simply not worth it. Now if the 001 and 002 were compatible with each other and doubled the I/Os, that would make me SOOO much happier. But then again, they could have done that with the 001 making it so that multiple units could be stringed together.

The main reason why they didnt make them compatible might be the different sample rates. Come on digi, just get up to speed and come out with Digi 001 MkIII and make it 96k so we would all be happy. Or a little upgrade chip or something.

Dream On,
-J

yeah....I don't use the pre's or the converters on the digi001 for the sole purpose that they're not really that good and who needs a control surface anyway? Here's a good question:

will the new software capable of 96k be available for digi001 users who have a/d's capable of higher sample rates??

I'm on the Mac Side but I saw the upgrade topic over here. I think it would not only please 001 users but would be profitable for Digi to give a credit ($800 or so???) to the purchase of an 002 to the users who own 001 and want to upgrade. Digi could turn around and resell these 001 units that are sent in to get this credit. Also, I think there should be a full credit of the 001 system towards an 002 to those who purchased the unit recently. It would only be fair though to have to turn in your 001 unit to Digi.

IMHO,
Donovan
