Nowadays it works by just dragging stuff around in ilok manager. Open the manager, log in, connect ilok, select the plugin on the ilok and drag it to the computer icon above your ilok(s) on the left side.

Or, if you just got it, do the same but once logged in, click your user name, then click Available, then select your new license and drag it to the computer icon on the left.

Cool observation, dragging it to the computer. Even though you do not NEEd an iLok, that's where I dragged it. I suppose what they call "same difference"?

It's nice to have the option of either. I have no issues with ilok, but I often use my MacBook Pro with another daw to record since it doesn't require an ilok.

I mostly do this so I can leave the ilok with the rest of my home rig and not worry about losing it. But if I do decide to open the recording and listen, I don't have any of my ilok authorized plugs available. I do still have the ones with authorizations on the computer. So that make computer authorizations nice.

The other side is if I'm going to another studio. I can take my ilok, and plug in installers on a USB stick, and quickly add any plugs they don't have.

And if you notice you have two authorizations for ultra channel. So you can authorize both ways. I just left my second one in the ilok cloud for now.

It's not cloud in the sense of if your computer is connected to the internet you can use that as your authorization. All cloud means in the post you're referring to is it remains on the iLok.com server but you still have to download it to either your computer or iLok key. UC is one of the few I know of where you don't need the iLok key itself but the ILM software on your computer to use as an authorization.

Music man was correct. IMO it's still a cloud. I can log in on any computer and download licenses to my ilok/comp. And until I do they stored on their servers. And I can take the licenses off my comp and put it back "in the cloud". So hence my terminology.

I really wish more vendors would go to a system like this. Waves does it, and so do plugin alliance. Albeit through their own service and not ilok. But it makes it super easy to move things around.

iLok tried several times hard enough to make it wrong.
They tried and succeeded each time. They are lucky that they are still monopoly for those of us who wanna use Pro Tools.

Not understanding this comment in relation to Ultra Channel. Are you saying you have problems with iLok and UC or just in general?
