Don't waste your money on it. I think I read that it won't run PT 10. Might want to check on that but it's an old processor and just doesn't seem worth it to me.

it won't run anything past 8.0.1
it needs RAM

your i5 laptop will run rings around it

I have 2 G5 dual 2.0 with 4 gigs of ram each. One has quit working and appears to be the logic board. The other will only work with the 4 sticks of memory in it now. Adding more causes errors. (most likely because they are unmatched and not really an issue). I can run up to 8.0.1 and no further. As well as only up to Leopard. Ok for tracking but no where near enough to mix with. Waves is stuck at ver 7 as well. For 800 bucks that's an iPad or another interface. Eleven rack or a decent PC laptop or a good chunk of a new desktop. I paid 100 for each of mine. And they only needed graphics cards. $80 on eBay. So I say not worth it.

Well said people - 2 or 3 years ago u might have been shot for saying a G5 wasn't worth it - but today that's the truth -

I have myself resisted to buy G4 PB at a steal and a G5 for $250 with the same spec that u have laid out !!!! Not worth it

Save your money and if it's tight then go for a refurb from the Mac store. The G5 is a Power PC chip and current versions of PT need an Intel chip cpu.

However you could use the G5 as a heater in the winter time.

Only good reason for buying a G5 would be that you have old (PCI) HD cards for it and you plan to have TDM-only sessions. HD3 is still just as powerful as ten years ago and if you don't use RTAS it doesn't matter how much CPU power you have or lack.

Last PCI G5 was produced +7 years ago so it's not good value for anything except hosting PCI cards.
