Default What\'s the deal with MIDI latency?

Sorry if this has been addressed a bazillion times. If so, please point me towards a good thread on the subject. I'm an experienced PT user, but kind of a newbie when it comes to MIDI.

So, say I'm performing a drum part using a USB MIDI keyboard controller. There's noticeable latency, but it's still workable. I'm probably making slight unconscious adjustments in my performance to keep up with the click track. All is well.

However, when I play back what I recorded, everything is slightly early on the Grid. Now, I'm certainly no Ringo but my rhythm isn't THAT bad! I don't have this problem with real instruments recorded to audio tracks.

Am I understanding this correctly that the latency is in the monitoring ONLY and what is going down to "tape" is NOT what I'm hearing? If this is the case, then is there any way to work around this? If not, how are people able to make this work? I'd really rather not have to quantize the life out of everything.

Thanks in advance.

Reduce the H/W Buffer Size whilst recording and use MIDI Track Offsets for Playback.

Your welcome.

Here's a post that might help with MIDI Latency and running MIDI Track Offsets.
