dubpimpjuice, IMO it's good and important that Avid sees that they have so many disappointed customers now... That's what a forum is good for, among technical issues.

The reason why everyone is pissed off is because of the price of the upgrade, it's really all about price. But I think also the fact that people are pissed off about this upgrade price so much and knowing that if they don't upgrade to 10 when 11 comes out the upgrade price is going to be even higher, it's like there is no way out of emptying your wallet if you want the latest version and that is the what is driving people crazy and away for AVID.

This thing about people making a living with pro tools does not factor into the ridiculous high prices. There is no way that the home/bedroom studio Pro Tools owner doesn't out number by a long shot the people who use it to make a living.

I agree with you dub, because until the infamous AES show everyone was making money and PT9 was the standard and making grammy winning records and audio for blockbuster movies..........but when the evil PT10 hit with its price tag, everyone thought that PT9 just stopped being useful. For me I'm looking on ebay at getting a killer HD2 accel system for dirt ass cheap and its gonna last me a few years or more and when I have the money and itch to want to join the newest version of hardware and software, I'll be able to get something out of my Accel................ Probably when I go to trade in my beatup 1974 Cadillac Eldorado for any new Cadi, the dealer aint gonna give me an "upgrade" price! I'll either get pennies for trade in or I'll have to sell the Eldorado to a junkyard, but that's how it goes.

Some of us Native users are making money off Pro Tools, but not everyone is making the same amount of money. That said, some of use aren't making enough money to warrant a $300 price for something that isn't worth it, but that doesn't mean we don't need the features. And again, like brickroadstudio said, it's a matter of principle. The upgrade is NOT worth what they are charging for it. Sure the features are great, but they aren't big enough additions to warrant such a price tag. And the fact that disk cache isn't included with native doesn't help. It's like paying $800 for some Gucci shoes. Sure the shoes are nice, but are you really pay that much for the name or for the actual worth of the product; when you can get the same quality of shoe or better from Steve Madden for $150?!

But the Eldorado is not banished from the freeway... unlike my recently bought PT HD3 including the interfaces - it will stop working within the next 2 years (?) And it wasn't much less than I have spent on my new car

So get Cubase. I understand what you guys are saying about principle, and that's fine we all get it you guys are unhappy about it. Go to some other company and see what their principles are. You'll go and start using Nuendo and it will crash more or won't be able to trade sessions with PT or Logic or Cakewalk and you'll say its the principle of it on their forums. If you like PT9 and think the upgrade is too much to 10 then don't frickin buy the upgrade, drive PT9 till the tires fall off!
