Default subtitles to regions

Hi!
Is there a tool to convert subtitles to something like regions (Midi or dummy regions) ?
This is only to visually see where there is spoken word in the timeline.

I found this tool to convert srt to midi markers but markers is not what I want.
https://en.editingtools.io/marker/

Thanks!!

This can be done with EdiCue and EdiPrompt

EdiCue currently can't import a .srt file but it can import a .csv file. There's plenty of tools online to convert .srt files to .csv. Once the .csv file is loaded into EdiCue it can export a PTX file with an audio track containing empty clip groups named with the dialogue.

Regards,

Mark

Thanks for clarifying that. Wasn’t sure of the OP’s file format.

Thanks for the info!
I was hoping for a bare-bones solution, I don't need all the functions of EdiCue or Edipromt, while they seem great apps.

Hi Pete!
Nice to have you here now! I was actually examining PGPTSession when your reply popped up :)
It would be great if you could implement importing srt files.
I work in foreign language dubbing and while the recording of lines is quite similar to ADR, the pre-production is very different (the whole movie is "ADRed" ).
In ADR, usually a sound engineer prepares the session using Pro Tools and documents are generated based on this session thanks to apps like yours.
In foreign language dubbing, the production team does not use pro Tools but specialized software to spot the lines and generate the documentation (scripts, cue sheets, etc)
Maybe the simplest way to represent time-based text is the srt format although it lacks additional data.

I plan to use whisperAI https://github.com/openai/whisper
to generate a "draft" srt file from the original dialog stem of a movie. The speech detection accuracy is not important but the timing of the phrases would be super-useful for bringing into Pro Tools a visual overview of where the dialogue is located in the timeline.

In the meantime I will try to study the Pro Tools session text export format and see if I can hack a script to transform subtitles to that format.

Cheers

I am in the same boat as OP - I do have Edicue though - but coped for years with a simple Filemaker database and script to import .srt, which can then be exported as xlsx/csv after cleaning up some elements - like making sure there are not 2 lines for 2 characters on the same subtitle block.

If you’re doing dubbing there’s only one tool you should be using and that’s VoiceQ.

Also, this will import SRT files into Oro Tools.
