'Follow Main Pan' on effect sends?

Hey,

Ok, this has been bothering me for some time and I would like all your feedback!!

We all create a reverb (or other effect) on an aux track and then use a send on an audio track to add the reverb.

When creating the send should the FMP button be enabled to follow the pan of the main audio track?

If the main audio track is not panned it doesnt matter of course, but if it is or it will be then the FMP button should be pressed right.?

It depends. If you're sending to a mono or mono-to-stereo effect, then it doesn't matter. But if you're sending to a stereo effect, then pan will affect the result. Compare how everything sounds. Also consider the end goal:

• Sometimes you are using your reverb to emulate a space, in which case you want things to act like they would in a space - use FMP. Or maybe you want to get creative, and reverse the send pan from main pan.
• Sometimes you have a reverb just to act as a bed behind the music, so you wouldn't necessarily FMP.
• What about a ping pong delay? Well, pan doesn't much matter for a single instrument. But when using multiple instruments, maybe it does. Use your ears.

Hi,

I also say yes so the stereo placement stays more defined.

as mentioned mono in stereo out effects it doesn't matter so have follow the main pan anyway.
