Hello,

I don't do drugs but am I hallucinating? Did Avid just fix the issue with audio clips??

I have been testing the new 2020.3 update and have done numerous test with audio and tempos changes and all the audio clips are lining up on the grid perfectly.

At first I did my tests with the new Folders and thought it was the reason my audio was being copied and pasted perfect. Then I decided to try the test without any folders and to my surprise, all audio clips are still aligned perfectly to the grid at different tempos when copying, pasting and duplicating...big smile over here.

Can someone on 2020.3 check it out and do some testing to see if you get the same result.

One thing I can unfortunately confirm is that midi notes are still being shifted with and without folders when copying and pasting.

I have downloaded 2020.3. I'll install it later not over my 2018.7 and 2019.12 still on my machine and after some session work I'll report back particularly with midi clips as well.

Be aware that installing PT 2020.3 the workspace file gets changed and such that it won't work with earlier versions of PT. That means no more multiple versions of PT on the same boot partition at one time. Thankfully the installer warns about that before it happens.

Thanks, the installer does warn you. I have 2019.12 and several older PT version workspace .wksp files backed up after PTE website advised this some time ago.

After working on a session in 2020, duplicating a MIDI clip on the timeline via alt + drag still randomly copies the MIDI notes out of line with the grid.

So here is an easy solution that alleviates the problem when simply wanting to duplicate a section to another point in the timeline.

Simply open the clips list pane.
Then on the timeline, select the clip you want to duplicate.
By default it should highlight the selected clip in the list. If not, you can go to preferences and choose Editing>Clips list follows edit selection).

The clip you want to duplicate is highlighted & available to drag n drop onto the timeline wherever you want in your arrangement as often as you need.

Provided you are in relative grid mode, the selected clip can be dropped in at the start of the bar with the notes accurately duplicated in time so you can get on with your groove and arrangements.
I will note however, that this won't apply to copying multiple tracks of MIDI clips.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the workaround. I think I'll try to adopt it for now.
However, this really remains an issue Avid should solve. Sooner, or later.

Much thanks take77, I’ll try this as a workaround too, it’s still a lot slower than duplicate, repeat or alt+drag but much better than what PT does now. I really hope this ‘next best thing’ for now in midi arrangement editing is reliable with midi notes and clip lengths. And as XJENSEN has said Avid really need to pull their finger out and fix this ever so long standing and extremely frustrating bug.

Thanks again take77

They never will. Because we are only few users that can"t live with this bug. And I am really surprised how other users can
