i had a stable system, running PCI PT HD2 7.4 on Win XP. rock solid she was.

so i decided to upgrade to PT 9.02 on Win 7.

all of the hardware in my machine is EXACTLY the same as before; Gigabyte GA-X38-DS5, Core2Quad Q9450, 4GB RAM @ 800MHz 5-5-5-15.

the installation of everything went smooth as butter; OS, drivers, PT, UAD-1e cards, all other plugins.

when i opened PT and tried to play back a recent mix, BOOM! -6031 errors immediately, the system is unusable.

the video card is a PNY nVidia Quadro NVS440. i have tried to install the 191.78 WHQL driver, as specified by AVID, but it won't install, it gives an error message stating that it's the wrong version of Windows. NO SH17?!

so, i'm using the most recent Win 7 driver from nVidia.

i NEED to get this system fully operational for a busy weekend of tracking next weekend.

suggestions please!

i could try this video card instead: ATI Firepro 2460 but i would rather not have to spend another €270. (i need the extra monitor outputs)
Can you possibly use the stock windows video driver? Not sure if it will work, but it could help.

My system was generation this error to the other day I narrowed it down to my wifi adapter, which now I have to disconnect when using pro tools this never happened when I had pro tools 9 native. Which to me is strange but never mind

well whaddayaknow, it IS the graphics driver!

i tried using the Microsoft nVidia Driver (WDDM), but PT still crapped its pants.

then i tried the Standard VGA Driver, and PT ran smooth as you like, not a bother on it!

but, of course, i can't use my multiple displays properly with this ancient, basic driver.

so, i'm going to try some other, older versions of nVidia drivers and have my fingers crossed that PT will play nice with one of them.

if not i'll be shelling out for an ATI card and praying to the flying spaghetti monster that it doesn't creep the crap out of PT.

FAO DigiTechSupport:

why the hell do you recommend using the 191.78 nVidia driver when it CANNOT BE INSTALLED on Win 7 x64?!?!
it is a Win XP 32-Bit driver.

forum member GtrDude reported in another thread here that his system was very stable with an ATI Firepro V3700.

i've just ordered an ATI Firepro 2450 which uses the exact same drivers as his V3700, so i should be sorted out.

good riddance to nVidia's POXY drivers!

i should have the new card installed by tuesday / wednesday, i'll let you all know how i get on.

we were having the same issue as dubritchie:

we upgraded PT7 on Windows XP to PT9.0.2 on Windows 7
6Gigs of Ram
Gigabyte GA-P35-S3G
nVidia GeForce 6200

this setup worked just fine before.
after the update we couldn't do anything without a 6031 error.

we "updated" the driver on the nVidia GeForce 6200 to be a "standard vga driver" and although we lost multi-monitor support, protools worked perfectly.

So we just snagged an HIS Radeon HD5570 video card, and everything works perfectly!

Thanks dubritchie!

praise be to the almighty flying spaghetti monster!

all is well again in the goonieverse!

i replaced the nVidia card with the ATI Firepro 2450 and VOILA! ProTools is purring like a kitten and my new system of PTHD 9 on Win7 x64 is a sheer delight.

so, i suppose the moral of the story is that nVidia drivers for Win7 x64 are useless for real-time audio streaming applications.

nVidia can suck my balls. get them inte ye nVidia! you muppets.

That's a good question - my guess is we inadvertently omitted some information. I'm going to find out and make sure it get's updated with correct info.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
