failing fader on S3
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
The 4th fader on my S3 calibrates on startup. It runs through the calibration routine successfully but when I open up a PT session, the fader does nothing. It happens with every session so I don't think that it's session related. Not sure if I need to replace the fader. I'm in Canada so I don't think that it's all that easy to get one here. |

Re: failing fader on S3
Not sure how techy you are, but the faders are fairly easy to remove and swap. I had the same issue with my secondhand S3 the day I bought it. I swapped it with fader 1 and all of them have been flawless ever since. It's possible the connection just got loose. It might be something else, though.

Re: failing fader on S3
Yeah, like Ryan said, S3 faders are field replaceable. You can give Support a call and order some S3 faders.
1 - Power down/disconnect S3 2 - Flip over and place on soft surface 3 - Remove all screws holding bottom panel 4 - Disconnect failed fader from Controller Board 5 - Flip back over, remove fader cap and two screws - bad fader will drop out 6 - Install new fader and close back up Pretty straight forward... just a lotta screws.

Re: failing fader on S3
Excessive screw count on an Avid product? How unusual... ;-)

Re: failing fader on S3
Thanks for the advice everyone.
I will order a new fader from support. I'd like to rule out that it could be some other issue though. The fact that the fader passes calibration on startup and then just sits dead during a session is a bit strange to me. I a may try the earlier suggestion of switching it out with another fader module. |

Not sure if it’s any cheaper than through Avid but this may help. Easy to replace.
