Default noob midi problem

hi all

im having problems connecting my midi keyboard to protools 8. Im running vista ultimate.
I have plugged the midi out from my keyboard into the midi in of my rack 003+.
I can play the keyboard and get a green flashing light on the front of the 003.
when i go in to PT under 'midi studio setup' there is no option at all.
midi thru is enabled.

im totally new to midi and need some help. do i need a cable from the 003 midi out into my keyboard midi in?

i really just want to fool around with some instrument plugins. any help would be really appreciated. thanks.

ok, so lets say i open a new session - new midi track

in mix window, input is set to "all", output is "McMIDIM[E]1".
my other options for output are "redefined - Microsoft GS Wavetable snyth" or "Microsoft midi mapper".
record enabled with the "McM" output comes up no signal.
im using a novation remote SL keyboard.
thanks

sorry
im totally new to midi setup.
i basically just want to create a instrument track, put on a plugin, say a "mini grand", play the novation, hear it through my monitors connected to the rack 003 and possibly record it.
i started by following the protools reference guide, got as far as "enabling input devices". Its not showing in my PT under setup - midi - input devices.
done a bit of googling. more confused than anything.
thanks

If u have midi hooked up, that honestly should be it; Midi Studio is irrelevant; Open an Instrument track, insert mini grand & that is it... As long as u have Midi thru checked...

AGAIN, u still haven't given anyone any info as to what i asked above so I myself will let u figure this 1 out urself or maybe som1 else may chime in...
