Lynx Aurora 16HD and 96i i/o
Gentlemen,
I'm looking at upgrading an HD2 system with an Aurora 16 interface and two Audient ASP 800 mic pres and having trouble getting my head around the inputs/outs. My 96i i/o gives me 16 inputs and two outputs. If I digilink the Aurora to the 96i i/o will I be able to bring the Aurora channels out of the two 96 i outputs from within Pro Tools? By the same token, will I be able to bring the 96i channels out of pro tools through the Aurora outputs? Maybe I'm just overwhelmed by the prospect of so many possibilities, but I thank you in advance for your input.

Re: Lynx Aurora 16HD and 96i i/o
Thanks for your reply Darryl, but cut me some slack here.
I'm trying to visualize possibilities. I've only worked with two hardware outputs (96i i/o) for years. So if I'm using all 16 channels of the 96 and all 16 channels of the Aurora, I guess I can sum everything to the two outputs of the 96i? Btw, I don't have HD Native, I have on old Digidesign HD2 setup. But thank you again, your response. It does calarify things a bit more.

Re: Lynx Aurora 16HD and 96i i/o
You can do whatever you like, all inputs and outputs are available to you as long as you stay within the capacity of a Digilink physical cable. That scalability is one reason to use HD/Digilink interfaces. (but OTOH Digilink is starting to look pretty old and who knows what AVB or AES67 or other technology will replace it... Avid's gotta make a move soon or be left behind).
Yes sorry TDM/HD2, no difference there in terms of the Digilink side of things. Last edited by Darryl Ramm; 03-10-2016 at 07:46 AM. |

Re: Lynx Aurora 16HD and 96i i/o
I own 2 Lynx Aurora 16's connected to my PT HD 2 Acell via TDM cable. Works great. Occasionally I get this strange glitch where if I change input or output of a track while audio is running, I get this weird misalignment that sounds almost like listening to Mid/Side decode or something. If you have any questions, I can try to answer. I am using 1 of the Lynx in the mirrored AES/Ebu mode, and then other in standard.

Re: Lynx Aurora 16HD and 96i i/o
Just my 2 cents, but I would use the 16 outputs of the Lynx and skip the 96i outputs entirely(or use them for a headphone mix). Why? Because the 96 series have cheap converters and the converters in the Lynx will almost certainly sound way better
BTW, if the Lynx is a new addition for you, this would be a great time to retire the 96. If you need all the inputs, grab a used 192 IO as they sound much better than the 96 BTW, I reviewed the manual for the 96IO but could not find any reference to the 96i. The 96IO shows 8 analog outputs on quarter inch jacks and 8 digital outputs via lightpipe(just wondering if you have more IO available that just needs to be assigned in the IO setup grid)? http://akarchive.digidesign.com/supp...6_IO_Guide.pdf
