I use the Pro 40 with PT10 and so far its rock solid. Just spent the whole day tracking drums in an old church on a MBP and no hiccups at all.

I would suggest learning MixControl throughly as its a huge help when setting up zero latency headphone mixes etc. And if you've got any troubles, Focusrite customer support is outstanding

Enjoy!

I've used a Saffire Pro 40 together with an Octopre Mk2 as my main interface for the past year, initially under PT9, and now PT10. Works wonderfully, right down to a 64 sample buffer on my Avid-qualified Windows 7 64-bit system. I'm very impressed with it.

Two small bits of advice, though - firstly make sure you use the latest 2.4 drivers. There *are* problems with anything before this. Secondly, as the previous posters say, make sure you learn the ins-and-outs of MixControl. It's very powerful, but some of its little idiosyncrasies take some getting used to.

I was thinking about upgrading to this from the 002 as well. Does mix control allow you to keep the digital ins or two of the analog ins routed to the monitors? I am wondering if I will miss the "alt src to monitors" button on the 002.

I have the pro 40 and have expanded it to 18 pre amps in and 18 ch. out by taking advantage of the ADAT and SPDIF ins and outs.

Bheringer ADA8000 to ADAT
ART DPS-II to SPDIF

The Art DPS-II provides sync to the Pro-40 and the Pro-40 provides sync to the Bheringer.

I'm working in 5.1 surround and use the pro 40 outputs to drive my 5.1 monitor system as well as a stereo headphone mix, using the included saffire mix application (There is also an RTAS version now I haven't tried yet).

I just purchased one and I am going to hook it up tonight. I have a question though. I bought one as a demo model from sweetwater for $369 but it didnt come with an installation disk. I also cant find an saffire pro 40 driver disk on the focusrite website. If I just install mix control 2.4 will I be okay?

Another question is what made you decide to buy the Saffire and how does it compare to some of the higher priced interfaces? thanks

Best bang (8 PREs) for the buck. Lot's of flexibility and (with some research) expandability.

If I recall correctly you just use the windows native (legacy) firewire driver. The Avid setup guide for windows describes setting up that driver.

I guess you didn't mention which platform you are on. I'm mainly on windows but have also used in on a mac. Just plugged it in and it worked.

So I dont need to install any drivers other than the mix control? I have a Imac I plan to put the pro 40 on. But if it works and sounds great I will either get another one or Liquid Saffire 56, maybe a MR816csx or the new UR824 for my PC. Thanks.
