- phantom power is engaged
- xlr into input 1
- no mic button is needed
- input 1 (gain) is open (turned up)
- in pt, audio track has its input as analog 1
- track is record enabled.

- the i/o setup is correct.

I'd don't get why "no mic button is needed"...
If you don't select mic with the button you are recording the line inputs, which I'm certain you know. Is the above a mis-statement?

My only suggestion Re: setup is to make sure that the track is set to "Input only monitoring". That'll mess you up...

Mikeren, thanks for the response,

the mic button is engaged only when you need to switch it to DI (its a mic/di button)
(on a 003r)

ill check input only monitorint (opt+i) but i cant see it being the problem as i'm not getting level?

Can you input line or DI signals via 1-3?

Are you testing 1 thru 4 with the same mic/cable?

This may sound crazy considering the problems with core audio but try to use the 003 with Garage Band (if the 003 is connected but not being used by ProTools, you should be able to choose it as the audio input source from within GB)

This would isolate the problem to either ProTools or the 003

As I recall there was a issue with the 003 (or possibly 003+) that involved the bundle of wires connecting the preamp being bundled too tight and pulling the connector off. The solution was to to cut the wire tie to release the tension and re seat the connector. You might want to check with Digi during buisness hours. This is not the same thing as the 002's power harness issue

Have you check your cable(s) for low resistance shorts
I had a 200 ohm short in a patchbay once, it was enough so beep testing passed but actual signal shorted out

The more I think about it I beleive that issue may have been unique the 003 console. Sorry I don't have a link.
