Default new 003r, no pres?!

so, 3 days ago i got my 003r (hardware upgrade from a 002).

- i went to record something and couldnt get level
- took it back to the store and fixed my i/o set up, verified pres work.
- back home, still no luck though.
- had one random incident where pre #4 worked?

dont know what to do.

Start here, Then read the Ref Guide on setting up your system I/O's etc.. would be a good place to start.

If everything worked at the store when you took it back, You've likely got setup issues.

Peace!

thanks for the quick response.

honestly, here's the setup:

- phantom power is engaged
- xlr into input 1
- no mic button is needed
- input 1 (gain) is open (turned up)
- in pt, audio track has its input as analog 1
- track is record enabled.

- the i/o setup is correct.

am i missing something? im almost 100% sure i've been doing it correctly as i randomly got pre #4 working when i tried applying the same settings/setup with the other inputs (1,2 &3) they jsut dont work..

edit: could it be a power thing?

First, do you need phantom power? A lot of mic's won't.

Second, if everything worked at the store, and not at home then:

a. bad mic cable.
b. bad mic.
c. incorrect setup (this can be anything from not properly arming record to the I/O setup in PT to be wrong to input monitoring being set wrong).

Follow the link I gave you in my last post. Post in detail what you are doing and what your setup is.. (open PT, open SETUP (on the menu), Click on each of the tabs at the top, (INPUT, OUTPUT, INSERT, and BUS), and click the default button to re-establish the default settings for PT/003)

Hope this helps.

Oh, Make sure the mic/DI light under each of the input knobs is NOT lit up...

-yes i'm using a condenser that requires phantom power.
- not a bad cable, checked with a tester
- not a bad mic i got level on it off an mbox on another system last night.
- i've already gone to the I/O setup, deleted the input paths and hit default.

i guess its difficult to trouble shoot this, but trust me, i'm doing everything right with no results...

COULD it be a power issue where the 003r isnt getting sufficient power to supply phantom to the mic?

Sure... but from where I sit, it could be just about anything. When you went back to the store did you try with a mic that required phantom power? and/or, have you tried with a mic that doesn't require power?

It's a drag to haul everything around, but if nothing else, take it back to where you got it from and show them what is not working. Have them hook it into their system and test it. If nothing else, offer the guy/gal some cold ones to stop by your place and have a look at your rig.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Well then, if it all worked there, it should work at home... When you tested your cable you only checked continuity or did you measure resistance? Could be that there is an intermittent/weak connection that severs under load.

Are you trying to record to an INSTRUMENT track? You should be recording to an AUDIO track. INSTRUMENT tracks are for midi and VI use.
