Default Rme + hdx

Hi.

I am thinking of buying a HDX card and link it to one of those new interfaces that have been popping up (Antelope Orion 32 HD for example). I currently use 2 x RME HDSPe AES PCIe cards that gives me 32in + 32out.
Being that PT HD Native only 'sees' the first 32 ch, would connecting the digilink from the Antelope Orion to the 2nd connector in the HDX board and making an aggregate device of the 1 RME AES HDSPe PCIe plus the Orion work?

RME ch 1-16 in ch 1-16 out (+) Antelope through HDX ch 33-64in 33-64out.
I would have a total of 48 channels I/O.

I have a Mac Pro 5,1; 6 core 3,33Ghz; Sierra 10.12.2; PT HD 12.6

Thanks.

You can't use an HDX card with PTSW. It needs an HD license for the card and a Digilink license for the I/O.

I have PT HD 12,6...
I just don't use the Avid interfaces, just RME, for now.
I plan to move to HDX.

Cool, the Digilink license was added with 12.6, so you should have that as well.

If you've got an HD asset and the Digilink asset (needed even if it's not an Avid I/O box) then you're all set.

You can't use non-HD interfaces with the HDX playback engine nor aggregate HDX with other CoreAudio interfaces. You can use the HD software license with CoreAudio interfaces.

You can if they have Digilink connector. I assumed the one in question does. Does it not? But you're right, you can't aggregate anything with HDX. I hope the OP knows this.

The Antelope Orion 32 HD does, but yes, the original question seemed to be about aggregating it with the RME card.

I am getting a bit confused here

So assuming I have an Antelope Orion HD 32 that has a Digilink port.
A HDX card with 2 Digilink ports
1 RME HDSPe AES (or whatever), that has no digilink ports.

How can I track in PT HD using AD ch from BOTH interfaces?

For example: I want to use the Antelope do track drums & Bass and at the same time a vocal track with a Burl ADC... I Can't aggregate both so I can use ADCs from the Orion AND the Burl?

PT HD with HDX has 64 ch 32 per digilink right?
So if I connect the Orions digilink output to the 2nd (33-64ch numbers), digilink port on the HDX, I can use the first 32 ch on PT to link on to the RME, right?

No. You'd need to hook up the Burl (in your example) directly to the first Digilink port. You can use the RME with the CoreAudio playback engine (but you will not be able to use the DSP on the HDX card, nor any interfaces attached to it). Or, you can use the HDX playback engine and use any interfaces attached to the HDX card. I hope this makes sense.

Thank you for your answer.
I think I understand kind of ...

So... Suppose I have a Burl mothership with a digiport (I wish...) with 16AD and 16DA + a Forsell MADA-2.
I connect the Forssell to the RME.
I connect the Burl to the digiport in the HDX.
I then create an aggregate device with Apples midi coreaudio app adding the RME to the Pro Tools one already existing (pro tools aggregate I/O).
Will this work? I can't test this because I don't presently have any interface with digiport.
