Default Trouble reinstalling Protools Le 8

Hi There

I am trying to reinstall Protools Le 8 and having some trouble. Perhaps one of you have seen this before.

On installation everything proceeds normally until I get to the stage where "3rd party content" is loaded. At this stage I get an error message saying

Install Failed - The installer could not install some files in "/." Contact the software manufacture for assistance.

Reason for reinstalling is that my Mbox mini stopped working. on further investigation i realised that Protools had stopped functioning. Hence I decided to uninstall protools and and reinstall. I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.5.

I haven't seen this problem personally, but I would try:

completing the uninstal
repair permissions
install PT with out any plugins or add ons
if that works successfully, then try to instal any plugins and addons you want installed

Couple quick questions:

What Mac are you using? How are you uninstalling Pro Tools?

Hi

Thanks for the reponses so far. Since my post I notice that despite the install not completing and ending with the summary. it still results in the files being loaded and the executable being available.

So then when i launch PT it stops before completing the launch claiming it can't find the mbox. I tried plugging and unplugging and different USB sockets and the "power on LED" on the mbox refuses to light up.

The mbox does work however when plugged into a PC?

Haven't yet tried the repair permissions mentioned above - will check that out tonight?

If there are any other suggestions in the mean time, I'd be grateful.

This may seem obvious but I realised the problem listed above was due to me running PT for the first time after installation under a different user profile other than Administrator. Running it first under admin I was able to enter the authorisation codes. All is now fine.
