Default Pro Tools without Interface?

All,

I'm trying to record some raw audio using my Focusrite Fotre (sampling at 48k) and then take just my Macbook Pro and iLok on the go to do the mixing and editing while being out and about.

I'm running into some issues, and I have a feeling I know why... I can't seem to open projects because the playback engine doesn't support 48k. Makes perfect sense to me, but wanted to see if anyone had any interesting ways to get it to work otherwise.

I've toyed with the notion of just sampling at 44.1k when I record to enable me to actually mix while mobile, but curious if I'm not thinking outside the box or something.

Thoughts...?

Strange I have always assumed that core audio would work at 48k b/c of QuickTime and movies on the Mac are coded at 48k

Strange - I regularly do this. Stating what may seem obvious to many but have you set Setup/Playback engine to 'Built-in output'? I've noticed it defaults to 'Airplay' if your interface is not available or after an install.

If ProTools defaults to AirPLay, hold down 'N' while it's booting up and you'll get a pull down list to select Built-In. It usually remembers after the initial setup.

Also, you may need to go to the Audio MIDI Setup (in the utilities folder) and change the sample rate for built-in to 48k, but it should do it by itself.

ProTools since v9 will work without an interface.
