When I press record, I don't want Pro Tools to record the note I'm currently holding

I put Pro Tools into a loop and press play, then while I'm playing, I'm not able to punch in the Record button at an instant "in-between" my playing to record the notes into the loop.

Hi not shure if I understood well :-/ but you might check the midi merge option !
Is on the "transport" and the upper menu under the tempo time and right to the tempo symbol .

Make sure that in preferences you are set to "record in the marked region" and not "record on lock"

Some MIDI operations have changed since ProTools 9 & 10.
