Default What is the name of this instrument?

The very first instrument used in this music. What is it?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcwK9uA1Fyc

Also, where can I learn the names of instruments and the sounds they make?

I struggle a lot because I know what sounds I want but don't know the name of the instrument so I can't look for it.

If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

the link you posted doesn't work for me, but i searched & found this, with the same title. is this the same recording? the first instrument is just a regular violin.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUHC9tYz8ik

edit: ok got yours to open, and it doesn't have the violin at the start, just some sampled drums after the word "billie". the bass drum — the literal first thing you hear — is some electronic kick drum like maybe a 909 kick, someone else might be able to say more precisely.

That link is not working outside the US/Canada so do you have a dupe to post?

Try googling "Peter & The Wolf" there should be other versions, I posted the Disney one but they are all the same.

I hope you and everybody else can find an uncensored version to watch, it's a very enjoyable and instructive cartoon and the music is supreme!
