Default Re: what do grid lines do after beat detective bar-beat markers

Hi cc1,

It really depends what you are doing with Beat Detective. For example if you choose Bar|Beat Marker Generation, then you are essentially creating a tempo map so that the grid moves, not your performance. In this case, if you have done the Beat Detection correctly, the grid lines that fall on Bars, Beats or Sub-Beats depending on which you choose will be aligned to the transients. So you won't hear any difference, but editing will be easier because now the Pro Tools grid is aligned with what is played. If you are only generating markers based on the Bars resolution, only barlines will lineup and any variance within the bar won't be affected. In this case, work at a lower resolution such as Betas or even Sub-Beats.

If you choose Region Separation followed by Region Conform, then you will actually be changing the performance to align with the Grid (or a groove), so that the grid lines don't move - the performance does.

Cheers,
Scott
