here's what digi support just sent me...
-Pro Tools does not provide direct support for the VS1680. If you would like to use it as a control surface for Pro Tools, you will need to
configure it to emulate the CS10 profile (you must be able to edit the controller's faders, buttons, knobs, etc. in order to do this). We have
included the controller information in Appendix A of the Pro Tools MIDI Controllers Guide:
http://www.digidesign.com/support/documents.html
NOTE:
-Emulating the CS-10 profile will only give you limited functionality with Pro Tools. For complete control over the Pro Tools GUI (including
two-way communication between controller and software), you will need to use an active sensing control surface such as the Mackie HUI or CM
Automation Motor Mix.
so now it's onto the 1680 for research on the edit
capabilities and looking into the midiman to see
about the its' configuration capabilities.
