if you are running protools 8, you need to install the core audio driver for protools 8. in my experience. the drivers, the core audio manager app and protools share some common libraries or something that either won't work without the other. you want to check that you have the appropriate version of protools le 8 as well. i think it goes up to 8.0.5. but if you are on snow leopard os, you might need a different version (8.0.3 perhaps, not sure).
