False economy. What you're proposing is to go on a fool's errand. Ask yourself if that cost savings is really there especially when you factor in the time and frustration of having a monster machine that's choked off due to a slowwwwwwwwww drive. First thing I did when I got my 5,1 cheesegrater was to drop the 7200 rpm spinner system drive for an ssd mounted on a pcie card. Really makes for a great PT experience.
I'm not as rich as Croesus but I know what my time is worth and I know my aggravation limit with slow systems.
Besides do you really want the extra heat load that spinner will put into your system? I think not.
