Default Re: Why is Time Shift so horrible?

Time Shift takes a little more getting used to, but it can be great on certain things when the settings are appropriate to the material. Does a great job on voice if you take the time to experiment with mode and range, and don't try to push it too far. +/- 3 semitones is about the limit unless you can put up with noticeable artifacts. The source material must be fairly clean, too. If you've got lots of room tone, RFI, or hum, forget it.

I use it in fixing old spoken word material where sometimes the speaker says the wrong thing - like gets a name wrong or something, and I need to find the right one elsewhere and pop it in. Usually needs a bit of EQ and pitch shift to fit well. Time Shift is brilliant for that. The old Pitch Shift plugin doesn't work for that at all because it shifts the formant with the pitch.
