Transfer speed depends on many factors. You said "the same files". What matters isnīt only your uplink speed but also the recipientīs download speed. Doesnīt matter how far away the recipient is. Transfer will only be as fast as the slowest connection between you and the recipient.

The essential speed is measured by the time it takes to transfer a given file from A to B. Not the Mbit figure.

Since DD has in-line compression the Mbit figure doesnīt really tell you how long you have to wait for the transfer to complete.

For a real comparison try this:

Measure the time it takes to upload your file to an FTP server plus the time it takes to download to a recipient.

After that send the same file via DD to the same recipient. Including up and download.

After that you see what was faster FTP or DD.
