I agree with Barry. I upgraded one of my 8 cores to a 12 core then was able to find a second 2009 Mac Pro 8 core on eBay for around $700 and will be upgrading that one shortly also.
If you are patient you can get a really good deal one and once upgraded, you will be surprised at how fast these old machines are!
