Make sure you are viewing the instrument panel in the track. not just insert, send, and i/o.

It sounds like this is assigned correctly.

If you imported a session sometimes the output gets an italicized alias output in the i/o panel where the aforementioned sends and inserts are. This needs to be changed to a real output(non italicized) but even so you should hear it but it wouldn't render correctly. You could go to the i/o preferences and just click default. Then double check that you have real outputs.
