with pro tools 10, exactly the same as 8, though things will run a bit better in W7 64bit and as stated, 8 is not supported on W7 though it is known to work.

10HD or 10 w CPTK does give you the new timeline cache feature witch generically saying loads the audio files into ram for insanely fast response time and overall better performance. with this a few extra gb is fine. typically 2-6gb on top of the roughly 4gb for the os is more than enough for music production.

so far initial tests are showing better performance in W8 than even W7. its obviously really early to tell but i would be watching this very close as 8 will be full release in october.

also if you have ANY plans of going to PT11 in the future, 10 would give you a much better upgrade pricing structure and start getting your aax plugins in order.
