If your new sound card has a SPDIF input, you could(in theory) feed the SPDIF output of the 002 into the sound card and have that feed the speakers. But its all in theory(so its up to you to try it and see what happens). I have to ask though, what makes you feel the card has better converters? How are you making your comparison? I'm not saying you're wrong, just want to know how you arrived at this opinion.
