Yes it is a Dell Laptop, hence my immediate jump to firewire. There's also an eSATA port but this doubles up as a USB and means that I'll have to get rid of another USB device [probably my mouse].
And yes, I know desktops are far superior for everything and I could have chosen a better laptop for the job, but as I say I have a limited amount of money and I did buy the laptop a good few months before deciding to get Pro Tools.
So you're basically suggesting I'm screwed then? The only solution is firewire but you don't think the Firewire controller in the laptop is likely to work?
Any solutions to this or other ideas?
If only laptops weren't so boxed up and it was easier to replace components... Gah
