Default Re: Which Macpro 12 core: 2.4GHz or 2.6GHz?

Back in 2009, there was a similar debate over the choice of Nehalem Mac Pros. Should one buy a 2.66GHz quad core or a 2.26 GHz eight-core? If the software was optimized for eight cores, maybe slower was better. But if the the software utilized only one core of the CPU, then the 8-core would be only 85% as fast as the quad-core.

But 2.4GHz is 92% of 2.6GHz. And both machines have twelve cores, so what would be gained? Something that requires ten minutes to render on a 2.4GHz machine will require about nine minutes on a 2.6GHz machine. So the answer is, how much is one minute of your time worth?
