Default Re: Best Core 2 Series Desktops-Results and Specs

So, I have a Maximus Formula sitting around that I got a few months back and I'm getting ready to build. Here are my specs:

MB - Asus Maximus Formula w/DualDDR2 1066, 7.1 Audio, Dual GB Lan, 1394, Dual PCI-E x16 Crossfire
CPU - Intel Core™2 Quad Processor Q6600 2.4GHz w/ 2x4MB Cache
RAM - (x2) Corsair 4GB XMS2-8500D Dominator TWIN2X Dual Channel DDR2 Kit (2 x 2GB) w/ Airflow Fan
VIDEO - eVGA e-GeForce 8500 GT 256MB PCI-E w/ DVI, HDTV-Out (Passive Cooling)
CASE - ANTEC Sonata III Quiet Super Mini Tower w/ EarthWatts 500W, eSATA
HD - Western Digital 500GB Caviar Black 7200rpm SATA II w/ 32MB Cache
DVD - LG Super Multi Security DVD Writer 20x DVD +/-RW Dual-Layer, Black (OEM)
CPU COOLING - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler for P4/775

My concerns are

- this MB did not have any of the accessories with it (manual, cables, audio card, etc.) I will need a cheap audio card to monitor system sounds and general listening outside of PT.....any suggestions?

- I am looking to run a dual-boot setup with XP / XP64 or Vista to take advantage of some 64 bit programs. I will be installing 8GB of RAM. When using XP(32), will I run into problems having 8GB installed even though there is the 3GB limit?

- I want to make sure that my video card can handle some newer games (to study the compositions and SFX of course!!). Should I abandon the passive cooling with 256MB and get something more robust?

This resource is fantastic. This will be my third build using the DUC for specs...can't wait!

DAW - Asus P9X79 / 32GB / i7-4820K / WIN7 PRO / VEPRO 5
PT 11.3.0 / Blacklion 003R / Microclock
Macbook Pro Retina / 2.8GHZ / 512GB SSD / PT 12.4
