I have run PT on both platforms for years, including self build PCs and have always run with HT enabled. I don't do hackintosh but it sounds like a hardware or driver issue to me.
Avoiding polarizing statements on OS viability and focusing on practical troubleshooting, you might want to try running Windows 7 or 10 on a different drive just as a test to see if the system behavior improves.
