If the console's running version 2.7 software then there's a handy plug-in info window on the Options>Plug-Ins page. Simply select any plug-in from either the right or left column and the Info pane displays the version number, as well as if there were any known updates available at the time the D-Show software was released. Using the Info export feature (Options>System page) also gives a full printout of all installed plug-ins and their version numbers, and will flag any plug-ins with known updates. It's not 100% automated, but it's a good start.
In addition, check out the VENUE plug-ins page js_nyc recommends. On the right hand side under "Quick Links" there's a link to a critical update page.
