suggestion...i have a 1604 mixer myself and i use it for routin' just about everythin'. but i route everythin' thru the inserts on the channels, that way i'm bypassin' the pre's and only usin' it for volume...not alterin' the sounds bein' routed. also one of the many things that Key pointed out to me is that there is a sonic difference, for whatever reason, between the monitor and main outs on the 002. so check it out on your 003 and see which one you dig the best
