Go thru all the troubleshoots (trashing prefs, databases) indicated in the sticky thread at the top of each forum, then try it again.

Core Audio is NOT used by Pro Tools, only by other applications to use the Digi hardware. Make sure no other application is launched that is using Core Audio (including setting your Sound control panel to built in hardware) before launching Pro Tools.
