I don’t treat it as as a de-esser. I have Sonnox (surgical), fabfilter (general) and SPL (best for drama as it is not a side chain compressor and does it with phase - which seems to hurt dial least.) on my channels for that.
The SA-2 is a gentle mastering compressor for any unevenness on my channel premix HF content - and just smoothes everything nicely, like a dB or two of bus compression does to my slightly compressed source channels. If it is all roughly good, then this is a very fine nice ironing process that allows you to tailor your Hmf and Hf.
